This clip is dedicated to all right-handed tennis players ... may they never have to encounter another sneaky left-hander again.       In the "Leftophobe" chapter of Tennis Hobo, Stretch worries about his pal Hammer, who has a winner-take-all match with a left-handed Argentine prodigy at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.  The action is spiced up with fun scenes of Hippie Hill and Chinatown.
When the greatest coach in the history of college tennis holds a book high and talks it up at an awards dinner ... well ... that is most definitely a good sign for the author.  Based on the achievements of Stanford's Dick Gould, that ride above his shoulders may always be Tennis Hobo's finest moment.
WAY AHEAD OF HIS TIME
A must-read interview!

He looks like the father of the Western World, although he is just the father of METALLICA, or the grandfather, depending on how you look at it.  Torben Ulrich, artist and musician, is a former Danish Davis Cupper who was the first to bring a meditative mindset to the tennis court.  Ulrich was no doubt an inspiration for Timothy Gallwey, who wrote The Inner Game of Tennis and is considered to be the prime pioneer of sport and corporate psychology.

It is FASCINATING to see what Torben Ulrich has to say about life.  At the time of this interview, his son Lars (Metallica drummer) was just a boy.

In the book TENNIS HOBO, Torben Ulrich and his disciple/sidekick, Jeff Borowiak, are well represented.  A youthful Brad Gilbert also makes an  appearance.  Meanwhile, Borg, McEnroe, Connors, and others of the pre-Federer era loom continually in the background of the narrative.  Author John Gruberg wishes to take this opportunity to thank coach Scott Borowiak for sharing his many insights to the game so cheerfully and for so many years.
